Changes Coming to Our Backyard
Friday, November 3rd, 2017
As you may have seen in the news, some exciting changes are coming to Waterloo Park over the next year. Since we consider this gorgeous green space our backyard, we decided to give you a breakdown of exactly what these changes mean for our Barrel Yards residents. Here are four things you’ll be seeing change over the next year or so.
The Laurel Trail
The Laurel Trail from Father David Bauer Drive to Seagram is getting a major facelift. A bicycle lane separate from the pedestrian pathway will ensure that cyclists with a need for speed won’t have to slow down for your dog who can’t quite decide which side of the trail they want to be on.
New Pedestrian Bridge
The wooden bridge that allows passage over the creek was looking a bit lonely, so the City decided to build another bridge beside it. Once the new bridge is finished, the old bridge will handle cyclist traffic, while the new one will have a lookout for pedestrians. The pedestrian bridge will also feature a lookout over Silver lake as a community and small event space.
New Boardwalk
A new boardwalk is being built on the west side of the train tracks that run adjacent to the park. Now, you can extend your romantic coffee walk even further than the original boardwalk, while surrounded by beautiful foliage.
Improved Pathway Lighting
Some parts of Waterloo Park can be dark at night, but not for much longer. New, improved lighting for the area will help park users feel safer walking through the park, even when the sun goes down.
