Resident Spotlight: Meet Dave Whiteside, Megan Kane and Max

Thursday, September 27th, 2018

Our latest resident spotlight focuses on Dave Whiteside, Megan Kane, and their lovable pooch Max. Dave and Megan moved into The Cooperage luxury suite in mid-June with the hopes of finding that big city feel in thriving Waterloo! As the Director of Research at Plasticity Labs, Dave strongly values a culture that breeds quality and satisfaction. Megan, Quality Manager in the Medical Device Software Division at Siemens Healthineers, changes the way doctors read and diagnose MRIs and radiology imaging. Together with Max, the Executive Director of Cuddling, they enjoy a relaxing and energizing experience at The Cooperage, where their leisure time is just as valuable as their careers.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THE BARREL YARDS?

Dave: Choosing The Barrel Yards was a pretty easy decision. Meg was living in Sydney, Australia when we met in true romance novel fashion and we did (very) long distance for a year and a half before I somehow convinced her to move here. Moving from Sydney’s 5 million people to Kitchener-Waterloo is a massive move, and the least I could do was try to make the transition as easy as possible. More than most apartments in the city, The Barrel Yards had more of a “big city” feel while still having the hominess that I have always loved about Waterloo. It was the perfect fit for us.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT LIVING AT THE BARREL YARDS?

Meg: The number of dogs in the building is one of the biggest perks. We have an overly-affectionate 80-pound bernedoodle named Max with a habit of begging for attention from every person he passes. Living in a building where dogs are so widely accepted has played a big role in helping us settle in quickly. If you love puppies, this is the place for you.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ON-SITE AMENITY?

Meg: I love the on-site yoga studio. Dance has always been a big part of my life, and one of the first things I did after moving to Waterloo was find an opportunity to teach dance after work. I use the yoga studio to choreograph routines for my students and it’s great to be able to do that from my own home.

Dave: For me, it’s the rooftop patio at The Cooperage. It’s easily the best view of the sunset in town.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE CONSIDERING LIVING AT THE BARREL YARDS?

Dave: Absolutely do it, and please bring your puppy. It was the best decision we’ve made (next to being together)!
