Resident Spotlight: Sophie and Ian Rufus

Tuesday, January 15th, 2019

This month’s spotlight is on two of our newest residents: Ian and Sophie Rufus! Both born and raised in the UK, these newlyweds just moved to Canada in December and have been calling The Barrel Yards home since the beginning of January. We are thrilled to welcome Sophie and Ian to the community and the country!

Sophie was trained as a nurse in the UK and is currently looking for the perfect part-time post here. Her husband Ian is a software developer working for North Inc. They have two dogs (a Westie and a Shih Tzu) who stayed behind in the UK for now — but the plan is to bring them over as soon as they can, since they miss them immensely! In the meantime, Sophie is willing to help other residents with puppy sitting or walking their precious pups while they are at work.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE THE BARREL YARDS?

Sophie: The main reason we chose The Barrel Yards is because it’s so close to Uptown Waterloo and the park! But also because it’s so pet friendly, and we LOVE dogs.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT LIVING AT THE BARREL YARDS?

Sophie: We really enjoy seeing the dogs all over the building and the surrounding areas.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ON-SITE AMENITY?

Sophie: For me, I’d have to say the rooftop lounge is my favourite amenity. I fell in love with the beautiful view! My husband Ian likes the library.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE CONSIDERING LIVING AT THE BARREL YARDS?

Sophie: Come visit, but be aware you’ll leave knowing you want to live here!
